A long time ago..
A Junior Bowls Club was started many years ago, but it was only in the last 3 years that the Guernsey
Tigers have actually got their name. Since then, the Club has grown massively in size, from only a handful of members to many
many more. The Tigers are made up of young people aging from 7 to 17. Many of our members have also gone off to play in adult
divisions and knock outs, and have been very successful.

The Sport..
The aim of the game is to get as close to the white ball as possible. This white ball is known as
"the jack". You have to stand on the mat (which is at on end of the green) and bowl to the Jack, which could be up to 25 metres
away (at the other end). This would be relatively simple if the bowls that you played with moved in a straight line.. but
they don't! Each bowl has a slight bias, which means that it curls round to the side.
So not only do you have to concentrate on the distance between you and the Jack, but you have to
make sure that you've left you bowl enough room to turn in time to stop next to the Jack...
You see, not as easy as you thought, is it?!
You can also play Target Bowls, where you can score different amounts for landing on different places
on the target..

Where do we play?..
Bowls is generally split into teo different seasons. The Summer Season lasts from the beginning of
May to the beginning of September, and during this time, the Guernsey Tigers can be found playing on the Beau Sejour outdoor
bowls green, called the Guernsey Bowls Club. There are matches on a Saturday morning, and a Friday Evening, as well as other
Knockouts which take place during the week. In the Winter Season (from October to April) the Tigers use the Guernsey Indoor
Bowls Stadium. This is situated near La Mare De Carteret School and has six bowls rinks, including a Café, Snooker Hall and
a section which is used by a Table Tennis Club.

Bowls come in sets of four, and every single bowls in that set is the same.
